Who We Are

Mental Health America of Montana (MHA of MT) is a recognized 501(c) (3) non-profit by the state of Montana and the Federal government. MHA of MT was started in 1948 when a group of Montanans concerned about mental health got together to form an advocacy and education organization.  We maintain a warmline to support individuals in mental health recovery and more recently, we are starting a youth line soon, come visit them at: MT Youth United: http://www.mtyouthunited.org

MHA of MT is a statewide organization with five affiliate chapters located in Great Falls, Yellowstone County, Daniels County, Sheridan County, and Stillwater/Sweet Grass Counties.

MHA of MT is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of concerned citizens across Montana. Our board members are persons with diverse backgrounds, mental health consumers, and family members of mental health consumers.

Our core program areas include annual children and rural/frontier strategy conferences, community education, a mental health Warmline staffed with trained mental health consumers, PRISM project (Prevent and Reduce the Incidence of Suicide in Montana), facilitation of the Montana Mental Health Legislative Caucus, Youth Crisis Diversion project in northeastern Montana, and development of mental health peer solutions.

Our Commitment to Anti-Racism

Mental Health America is committed to advancing an anti-racist agenda and promoting health equity. We affirm the importance of mental health advocacy and recognize that racial injustice has caused trauma and harm to minoritized communities. We acknowledge that combatting racism and inequity is an ongoing commitment. The impact of economic, clinical, and environmental disparities, including diverse linguistic needs, may hinder the opportunity to access and receive quality and equitable mental health care and services. Thus, we remain devoted to addressing discrimination, stigma, and other social and moral determinants of health, leading by example and educating our affiliates and communities. Together, we stand united in support of racial justice and the intersection of mental health, and the well-being of humanity.
